"Recently some concerned members of DAGGER brought new Eco-feminist Issues to our attention. What's up with this TERMINATOR GENE, superweeds and Mexican sale of infertile and genetically altered grainin food crops? What's this we hear about Monarch Butterflys being killed by laboratory-altered pollen... and, what are the RISKS with these techniques?
The gals of DAGGER wanted to know.
Our members researched these issues, and improvised an action to engage people at festivals and on the streets of Boston. The "SEED STORY" Goddesses first hit the streets for JP's annual "Wake Up The Earth" festival in March 2002.
DAGGER created the costumes for SEED STORY in an exclusive workshop with local puppeteer and costumer HOLLY RATAFIA. Holly taught us many low-cost puppet, costume, and mask construction techniques - with lovely results! Many thanks to Holly - and to all our crafty DAGGETTES!
We debuted our SEED STORY characters in JP at Spontaneous Celebration's annual "WAKE UP THE EARTH" parade and community festival, where our bright and lovely tissue paper flowers were much loved by children and parents alike.
DAGGER was even asked to pose with the local police force, go figure! It just goes to show ya - in JP even the Cops can dig the Great Goddess! ;)
We later appeared at the 2002 Boston Dyke March, distributing "Dykey Dagger Dirt Works" Seed Packets to all in Copley Square on June 7th.
4 Daggers (Maggie, Amatul, Lauren and Whitney) appeared as Earth, Fire, Air, and Water to tell our SEED STORY at a Cambridge MA fundraiser for GODDESSING MAGAZINE on June 21st.
