B4T (Before Testosterone), an edgy multi-media theatre piece that explores race, sexuality and gender expression through the lives of three Black, masculine female-bodied people.
“What’s it like to be a Black Butch Lesbian?”
Playwright and award-winning performer Imani Henry
stars in B4T, playing three characters from different
class and ethnic backgrounds who answer these questions
in their own words. B4T played to sold-out audiences and standing ovations in New York City.
When the lights go down, the questions “What are you?
A man? A woman?” become less important than “Who are you? What is your story?”
